Mythical Journeys
Mythical Journeys was commissioned by the Upper Midwest Flute Association and the Minnesota Guitar Society in 1991, and premiered in that year by Barbara Leibundguth, then co-principal flutist with the Minnesota Orchestra, and guitarist Alan Johnston. It is a musical response to two poems: “We did not know them” from Mythical Story by George Seferis, and “Ithaka” by Constantine Cavafy, both in wonderful translations by Edmund Keeley and Philip Sherrard in their Six Poets of Modern Greece, Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1968.
