Organ Prelude: “Ich halte treulich still”

For Elaine Phillips.

I wrote this little organ prelude in 1981 for my sister, Elaine Phillips, who at that time was the organist and choir director at a small church choir in Lancaster, PA. On revisiting it these many years later – having learned a thing or two about writing for organ – I realized that there were far too many notes in it to be practical, and set about paring it down. Here is the result, streamlined and, I hope, much more playable and practical.
