Epiphania was composed in 2003 for a brass choir comprising three trumpets, horn, three trombones, euphonium and tuba. It is music about the manifestation of joy and hope in troubled times. The somber music intoned at the opening and closing of the work brackets a more joyous, hopeful dance of revelation and rebirth that incorporates jazzy rhythms and a direct reference to Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis. Epiphania was premiered by the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and William Schrickel on May 23, 2004, at Normandale Lutheran Church, Edina, MN.
