Apparizioni

Apparizioni (phantoms) was commissioned by the Schubert Club in 1988 for pianist Anthony deMare. It is a virtuoso vehicle with an opening declamation, a technically challenging fast section, a slower romantic fantasia, and a final fugue in fast tempo. Influences include many of the composers whose piano works I studied at the University of Minnesota, most notably Shostakovich, Berg, Prokofiev and Hindemith.
