Allusions

Allusions was written in 1978, not too long after I graduated from the University of Minnesota. As such, it is a post-graduate work; I was still experimenting, getting the technique down, practicing thinking in “orchestra” mode. The allusions in the first and third movements are general – “Classical” and “Fleeting.” The three songs of the second movement are one that were favorites of mine at the time: “The Pear Tree” (a Russian folk song), “Pedro nadie” (written in 1970 by Piero De Benedictis), and a fragment of Mikis Theodorakis’s music for Zorba the Greek.
