Encore une aubade was written in 2012 as an exercise in short-form violin-piano encores, spurred on by Hilary Hahn’s Encore Project. Needless to say, I didn’t expect to win a slot, and in fact did not, but it was a way to amuse myself while teaching orchestration… It owes much to Brahms’ G major violin sonata.
