Suite for Two Flutes

Suite for Two Flutes was written in 1977, a year after I graduated from the University of Minnesota. I was on the road with Mexican guitar player Benjamin Peña, playing keyboard and singing very background vocals. Our lead singer was also a flutist, and I wrote these duets for us to play. But they were a little too tricky for casual reading, and we never worked them up.

Here are four miniatures, for a total time of five and a half minutes. A “Fanfare,” a Spanish-influenced “Jota” (I had been listening to the band works of Carlos Surinach), a slow “Nocturne,” and finally, fun with “Canons.”
