Text by Thomas Dekker.
“Golden Slumbers” was written in 1994, during my tenure as composer in residence for the Dale Warland Singers.
Golden slumbers kiss your eyes;
Smiles awake you when you rise.
Sleep, pretty wanton, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby:
Rock Him, rock Him, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you;
You are care, and care must keep you.
Sleep, pretty wanton, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby:
Rock Him, rock Him, lullaby.
