For Gordon College.
Coy Pond Suite was written in 2013 for Gordon College’s jazz ensemble: the Coy Pond Piranhas, conducted by David Rox. They premiered the Suite in November 2015. The Piranhas take their name from a beautiful little pond behind the Gordon College music building, and the titles of the movements suggest what one might do on, in, or near such a pond. The style was influenced by big band recordings that I heard in the 1970s: Duke Ellington, Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, Woody Herman, and Clare Fischer, among others.
